Connecting kids with solar power

plasterk-solarschoolsAmersfoort, June 30, 2013. Minister Plasterk visited the Kubus today, our first Dutch SolarSchool. He received the project report "Borderless discussions" by a few pupils of the eighth grade who participated to the project.

The visit took place within a bicycle tour through the Soesterkwartier. Several inhabitants informed him while walking and cycling about the results of various private initiatives implemented in this quarter.

The project visit started with a walk through the Traffic Garden, an initiative for children to get traffic education. Along children playing on the skelters he was informed about how this initiative came about and how the inhabitants manage and maintain the traffic garden. After that he walked to the plot of Soesterhof, where 20 residents currently develop their own housing project.

In care center Puntenburg the minister was briefed about the just realized care company, in what teenagers perform social internships and exercises. The tour through the Soesterkwartier finished at the Kubus, where just 60 panels are installed on the roof of this primary school. At the end of the afternoon was the possibility to ask questions to the minister in the building of the local play garden. He stated that he wanted to raise awareness for private initiatives such as he has seen.

With a pleasant drink the visit was closed. The Soesterkwartier and all initiatives he had seen, will stay with him for long, as he mentioned afterwards.
